Lyle William Payette, 69, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Lyle was born in Detroit, the son of Lyle and Sidney (Smith) Payette. In 1992, he married Judy Sanford. Lyle was an avid church-goer and enjoyed listening to Amy Grant's gospel music. He was raised Baptist and volunteer much of his time to different Christian organizations. He enjoyed his trip to the Holy Land and was baptized in the River Jordan. Lyle was an usher for many Billy Graham crusades and truly enjoyed his time spent with others. Lyle would spend hours fishing in the Detroit River and liked to roller skate and bowl.

Six years ago, Lyle moved to Traverse City to be closer to family. While living in his group home, he enjoyed all of the activities they offered, especially Bingo and Wii bowling. It was very important to him to stay involved with the home's council meetings, offering suggestions on improvements.

Although he will be greatly missed, the family takes comfort in knowing he is now whole and walking with his Father.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Judy; mother, Sidney Payette; sisters, Patricia (John) Merlo and Lillie (Gordon) Harris; nieces and nephews, Paul Merlo, Robert Merlo, Tammy Payette, Jessica Valdez, and Michael Harris; great nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Catarina, Gerald, Jacob, Brittani, Julia and Nicholas; great-great niece, Skylur; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Lyle's father preceded him in death.

The family would like to offer special recognition to the wonderful caregivers at Bortz Health Care; including his CENA's, nurses, administrative and activities staff, who played an important part in Lyle's care and comfort; especially Barb, Nancy, Marie and many more. They would also like to thank Hospice of Michigan for his additional comfort to him and his family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 7 to 8 pm and on Saturday at 10:30 am at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral service will be on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11 am at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics.
